People Mover was established in 1974 when the Federated Women's Club of Hershey recognized the need for transportation of older citizens. Consequently, the Federated Women's Club of Hershey organized the Seniors Citizen's Council, incorporated in October, 1974. With the support of the Dauphin County Area Agency on Aging, a van was provided and service began on January 3rd, 1975.
The van was christened "The People Mover".
Service is provided within the limits of Derry Township, traveling to doctors, dentists, the Hershey Medical Center, grocery stores and beauty shops Mondays thru Fridays.
The Senior Citizens’ Council of Derry Township is comprised of about 50 volunteers who staff the positions of van driver, assistant driver, dispatcher and substitutes. This organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
